A dental implant is a titanium or zirconia post that carries a fixed crown or supports a removable denture. Properly chosen, placed and maintained implants last for decades.
Two stages
- Stage one: the implant is placed in the bone and the gum is closed. Over two to four months the bone bonds with the implant (osseointegration).
- Stage two: a healing abutment shapes the gum, the laboratory makes the restoration and the dentist fits it.
